Why we became humankind

When we launched as The Anti-Discrimination Project Inc., our mission was clear: to confront workplace discrimination against people with mental health disabilities. Over time, we realized our name spoke more to the problem than the future we’re building.

Our new name, humankind, reflects the heart of our work — creating workplaces rooted in dignity, equity, and humanity for all. It’s about more than ending discrimination; it’s about fostering cultures where every person can thrive.

The mission hasn’t changed. The scope and ambition have grown. humankind is our commitment to driving systemic change, supporting both employees and employers, and proving that empathy and performance can — and must — coexist.

What is next

Following a fast, ambitious launch, we’ve learned a great deal. We now understand the challenge is more complex than we first imagined — and the opportunity is even greater. There is clear support for a solution, but introducing the right solution to a completely unserved market requires precision, patience, and disciplined execution.

We will build on what’s working, pivot away from what’s not, and move forward at a pace that ensures thoughtful validation, sustainable growth, and lasting impact.

About

humankind is a disabled-owned Public Benefit Corporation, intentionally designed to prioritize justice, transparency, and impact over profit, and is proudly based in the heart of America - Kansas City.

The Problem

Mental health disabilities now represent the largest — and least protected — category of workplace discrimination. humankind was created to solve this brutal, systemic problem. It is a problem few employers understand, fewer address correctly, and almost none treat with the urgency or seriousness it demands.

The Solution

We are developing a human-centered platform to help employers:

  • Understand mental health disabilities, legal protections, requirements, etc.

  • Navigate mental health accommodation requests with clarity and confidence

  • Train managers to engage and respond appropriately without fear or bias

  • Reduce ADA risk without adding administrative burden

  • Support employees proactively, well before it ever becomes a legal or reputational crisis

  • Establish a CEO-mandated zero tolerance culture on discrimination

Upon completion, this will be the first truly comprehensive program in the market.

Transformative innovation born in the heartland, for humanity.

The Approach

We have begun by validating market need, alignment, and demand with key stakeholders. We are subsequently raising capital to assemble a mission-aligned, industry-leading team to design the solution, establish workflows, and launch expanded marketing.

Development will start with a proof-of-concept beta cohort, followed by refinement and deeper engagement with those participants. From there, we’ll pilot with Kansas and Missouri employers before full commercialization.

Long-term, we’ll build a no-cost survivor support package through a dedicated team, create a partner network to deliver it, and launch a formal advocacy program to modernize workplace regulations.

Call to action

We have three immediate needs:

  • KC area employers interested in partnering via no-cost participation in our beta cohort.

  • Investors willing to match the commitment our Founder & CEO has already made to enable the mission, and lead this $1+ billion total addressable market (TAM).

  • Aligned partners to help us execute our plan, fill gaps, support efforts, etc.
